【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandardoffersguidelinesforthecontent,organizationandpresentationofindexes.ThisInternationalStandardappliestoindexestobooks(includingworksoffiction),periodicals,reports,patentdocuments,andotherwrittenorprinteddocuments,andalsotonon-printmaterials,suchaselectronicdocuments,films,soundrecordings,videorecordings,graphicmaterials,maps,andthree-dimensionalobjects.ThisInternationalStandardisconcernedwithbasicindexingprinciplesandpracticeratherthanwiththedetailedproceduresofindexingthatvaryaccordingtotypeofmatterindexedandtheusersforwhomtheindexisintended.Thereforetheexamplesgiven,includingpunctuation,areillustrativeandnotprescriptive.ThisInternationalStandardcoversthechoice,formandarrangementofheadingsandsubheadingsusedinindexentriesoncethesubjectstobeindexedhavebeendetermined.(Fortheexaminationofdocumentsandtheselectionofsubjectsforindexing,seeISO5963.Forthecompilationofamonolingualthesaurusthatmayassistintheselectionofindexterms,seeISO2788.)AlthoughthisInternationalStandarddoesnotgiveanyguidanceoncomputerizedindexgenerationassuch,itisrelevanttothepreparationofalltypesofindex,regardlessofwhethertheyareproducedmanuallyorbycomputer-assistedmethods,andwhethercompiledbyoneindexerorbyateamofindexers.Itdoesnotcoverthemechanizedextractionoftextwordstogenerateindexes,e.g.KWIC(KeywordinContext),nordoesitcoverspecialsystemsofindexingsuchasPRECIS,chainindexing,citationindexingorthetechniquesofpost-coordinateindexing,althoughitsrecommendationsmayberelevanttoanyofthesesystems.Itdoesnotmakerecommendationsforthecompilationofcataloguesforlibrariesormuseums.
